About the Honey

MĀNUKA
The most famous honey in the world. Widely known for its health benefits and strong malty flavour. The intensity of this flavour increases with the MGO levels. We have 2 different categories of Mānuka with a different MGO rating and different recommended uses.
Mānuka Honey has higher levels of enzymes and antibacterial properties than found in other honey. Methylglyoxal is its active ingredient and is responsible for these antibacterial effects. As registered exporters, 309 Honey meets the highest MPI standards . Each Honey is tested to ensure true MGO levels and optimum quality.

THE ORIGINS
Our honey is made in Coromandel, New Zealand. Picture golden sand and beautiful Pōhutukawa trees.
It is named after the 309 Road which connects the peninsula's eastern and western seaboards.
The beekeepers live here, so do their bees. Together, they make honey.
309 Honey started 20 years ago when we bought 60 acres of land on the 309 Road. The property came with 150 beehives.

Over the years the business has grown, but our philosophy remains the same; producing the best honey we can.

All of our Honeys are Raw, unpasteurized and coarse filtered. We don’t add any bad stuff and we don’t take away any good stuff. Simple.

OUR 309 MĀNUKA HONEY

Our honey is authentic. Beware of the many products that are not!

It is rigorously tested both in New Zealand and at the Technical University of Dresden in Germany. These certificates can be downloaded here:

What is MGO?

The MGO content (MethylGlyOxal) stands for the amount of active ingredient in milligrams per kilogram of honey. Other honeys generally have a maximum of 2 to around 20mg MGO/kg. Manuka honey is therefore unique in the world and many times stronger in its antioxidant effect.
